Found this nice looking 1950s, but can't seem to find a match, checked out coneca for a match, IMM-009 looks close, but I don't see a split bottom serif. could use a pro on this one. There is a clear curved line at the top inside and below also. there is a very small indent at the top right but not enough to me to call it a split serif. Have a look; Thanks.....................Dan

Unless my eyes deceive me, you have one very nice RPM there! You might wanna post close ups from both the opposite angle as well as straight on to show everything.
Great pics by the way! -
Very possible. Looks similar to a few listed but its hard to tell. I see something inside that top loop if that's what your talking about.Comment

Focus on the close up regular color would help. From these pics I do not see anything. Needs to be a bit closer and definitely clearer..Comment

That's about as good as this flat bed scanner can do, sorry about that, however when looking through my microscope I fail to see a split on on either end of the serif that tells me or would indicate it's not a RPM. but why the curves inside the serif top and bottom? I guess that is the question. Thanks for your time............DanComment

I can't stop staring at this thing. I see what appears as the upper vertical section of an underlying S . I also keep focusing on what seems to be a deep north/south separation line in the center if the MM. The problem is you have some MD to the west combined with the usual mind numbing "clutter" that accompanies most S mintmarks. Sometimes what looks like separation from the center line south is actually deeply punched MDD. I still think you have an RPM or at least what's left of one. Interesting coin either way!Comment

Dan, If the upper serif has a split - dark pic and not sure the RPM is definately to minor plus the die state of this coin is LDS/VLDS notice how mushy the Date/IGWT/Liberty are? I think I would just through it back and keep looking. """This is my opinion only""" What the other members are seeing inside the mintmark is part of the punching process. ALOT of 50-S's look like this. If you have more of them, take a look and see. You will see what I mean if you have more examples to compare with.Comment

That would answer the question, about not seeing any split serifs. I think you are right, maybe after looking at a few million or so, you get a feel for the coin you are looking at. I have found that all coins have certain characteristic's about them. Chalk it up to knowledge which is a good thing yes? Thanks..................DanComment

After looking at the second pics I think Eric is spot on here. Great attitude about chalking it up to knowledge, Dinky! I recently searched $100 face of UNC 1969 S memorials and I fought this same issue constantly. After a few thousand of 'em I finally trained my brain to sort the junk from the treasure. It was not painless! That would answer the question, about not seeing any split serifs. Well, knowledge is something we all need , if you want to be a good coin collector. Thanks everyone for you input on this 1950S. It is fun finding something even if it turns out to be just another penny, but wait it is still a 1950S in at least AU condition worth more than just a penny. Thanks..........................DanComment
