    1959 D RPM - 047 ?

So many RPM's to chose from in this year, not certain this is the right one. I was looking at the mint mark when I noticed something above the 1 in the date, not sure what it is. On some coins this could be doubling. New double die? Please have a look, maybe someone has seen one like this. Thanks....................dinkyblue

I can see the splits in both serifs but yours does not appear to be Copper Coins 047... Your MM is to far north... I can not match it to any others on Copper Coins??? Maybe a new one??? As for the nub above the one to me it looks like a die ding but there are DDs listed with similar appearances... Maybe a PM to Bob or Will could help???

I looked at all the RPM's and found none that match. I will keep looking. It is an RPM as there are split serif's. As far as the nub above the 1 in the date, this is unknown to me. Haven't seen one like it before, that's why I posted it. Thanks for your answer it does help a lot. ......................Dan

The "nub" as Jim? put it would be a dead give away for this RPM. It is not a big deal as there are a lot of these out there and I will more than likely find another. If you happen to see it in your book please let me know and thanks for your help.......................Dan

I bought the copy signed to me. At first I thought I was an RPM book up to 1959 and when I opened it, it was ONLY 1959. It's a pretty minor rpm but that part above the 1 is pretty common

Well now I know, Sometimes on coins the nub above the one or above the L in LIBERTY means that it is doubled. It is always a good thing to check it out, isn't this what this site is all about? finding out what you have in hand, could be small or could be a large or a great find, If you don't know you learn, That's what I like is to get more and more knowledge as this is the key that will unlock the doors. Thanks for looking, your help is greatly appreciated......................Dan

Definitely an RPM, but one that I can't match to any in my files. As far as the 'nub', I don't believe it is anything of consequence in this case. I know exactly what you are referring to when mentioning a nub like that, but most I have seen is on the L of LIBERTY such as 1964P-1DO-002. http://coppercoins.com/lincoln/diest...&die_state=mds I believe there may be one or two more like that.

Just to add to Bob's analysis, I am noting that the "nub" trails off in the same direction as the other die scratches, so I would guess it is just a deeper abrasion mark.

I questioned the "nub" as you called it, as it has a rounded shape and to me something had to make it like that, it just doesn't look like a normal die ding, scratch, or abrasion to me, but I'm still new at this and have a lot still to learn. Looking at some of the coins that have doubling on the L I in LIBERTY, they look very similar. Well it is after all a new RPM so far. I will put a big question mark on it, and save it for later. Thank you for your time and interest .....................Dan
