die deterioration or ddo?

I'm fairly sure this is deterioration. Although the line on the leg of R in Trust is an eye catcher, the shrunken device combined with the "peel" in all directions usually points to MD 99 percent of the time. It's taken 4 years for the wizards here to lovingly pound this into my brain and I still have trouble searching for doubled dies on Memorials! Especially the Zincolns. The glare and the squared off devices just frustrate the hell out of me! I'm much better than I was but to date I still have only found 4 Memorial DDOs. The process does get easier once you find a few good ones but I will readily admit it is still hard for me to "Just say no" to myself on certain coins.

I looked at this for a while, Tom. These class 6 attributions can be very difficult on circulated coins. I have at least a whole tube full of these "thick 9 tail" cents that I will probably never look at again. lol. Anyway, while the tail on your 9 does appear to be thick, I don't think it actually is. I say this because other parts of the date, especially the vertical on the 7 are actually thinner than normal. Similarly, the L on LIBERTY. I believe over-zealous die polishing is to blame for this. This may be creating the illusion that the tail of the 9 and the 8 are extra thick. Also, these parts look oddly flat, which makes me wonder if there also isn't a hit involved there. Like I said, these class 6 ones are extremely tough with the wear. I would say it is possible you have one there, but who can say for certain with the other issues. Personally, I would throw it back. All opinions expressed are not necessarily shared by willbrooks or his affiliates. Taking them may result in serious side effects. Results may vary.
