This is a large date, is the small date 1970S rare? Also... the S, why do all of the S's I see, including this one, look like there is something inside the S?
Great, thank you enamel. This info will be helpful to Patric also! Have a great night!
Patric, I would point you to an example of small date vs. large date on a 1970S if I knew where to find it. I think you can find it on http://www.lincolncentresource.com/ really good info there too!

A lot of people describe that as "I see what looks like a tiny S in the center".
I think it's something from the punch they were using.
The SD is pretty rare.
The SD is also on some proofs.
From what I've seen, many (maybe most) of the SD bus strikes come from mint sets.
Same with the RPM-1, many (maybe most) come from mint sets.
70-S is a really good year for looking at mint sets and proof sets, there are several nice proof doubled dies including a very cool proof LD over SD DDO.
Looks like MD to me also... Here is the link to the page Vivien was thinking about http://www.lincolncentresource.com/s...malldates.html It covers not just the 70 but also 1960, 1974 and 1982... I still gets these mixed up and have to ref to the link... That is why I keep it handy
Jim (A.K.A. Elmer Fudd) Be verwy verwy quiet... I'm hunting coins!!! Good Hunting!!!
Thank you all for your input! I appreciate it! I am familiar with the small large dates but I do have a question if I may...Is there a way you can tell the difference between copper and zinc on the 1982 pennies without weigh them?
Is there a way you can tell the difference between copper and zinc on the 1982 pennies without weigh them?
Weighing is most definitive.
You can look for plating bumps.
You can flip them, if they make a zing noise as they're in the air spinning they're copper but zinc will never make a zing noise.
Some people can hear from dropping on a table but doesn't work for me, also copper feels cold to the touch but zinc feels warmer.
I use a homemade little balance, you can make one with a popsicle stick and pencil like teeter toter and glue a zinc on one end and set the length so a zinc on the other end stays up but a copper drops.
