    1940S DDO-2/DDR-5

This is the DDO-2 with what I believe is the DDR-5 reverse, however not positive on the stage and information from VV is not exactly conforming to my coin.
I had PMed Jim about figuring this out but did not see a way to attach pics to the PM so here is the coin. Originally thought I might have the DDR-4 version but as I look at the stage information from VV it looks to be DDR-5.

Maybe an early-late stage situation. Seems as if the obverse may be stage C while the reverse is stage B.

While it does have the forehead crack to the U of trust and the N-S crack through E of LIBERTY, it does not have the crack through the lapel and 9 of the date. The EPU dot looks to be a bit out-of-round suggesting the DDR-5 vs. DDR-4.

        Thanks,

Jim kinda put a 'scare' in me during a PM because he was thinking it wasn't even a D/D [since all that he had to go on was the link to ebay] -- Had to get this issue straightened out, straightway.

On a side note, isn't it possible to send pics through a PM? I am fairly certain I have done it before, but didn't see how I could do it this time.

Nice pick... The ebay pic was really bad... Good call on 002... How large is the crack thru E of LIBERTY??? Not sure which rev you have tho... The dot between the e P on yours looks closer in shape to 004 http://www.varietyvista.com/01a%20LC...940SDDR004.htm than to 005 http://www.varietyvista.com/01a%20LC...940SDDR005.htm Yours looks to have taken a slight hit making it appear elongated??? On DDR 004 there is a die abrasion/scratch between the tips of UM in UNUM and the rim... Do you see that on yours??? There are also a bunch of little markers that could be used to help i.d. your rev... It will take a bit of lookin' back and forth tho!!!

Got a few pics that will hopefully answer some questions.

At this point I am thinking (early) stage C for the obverse and stage B for the reverse. The yellow arrows in the wheat tip pic show the only area where I see the possibility for the DDR-4 scenario except for the dot between E and U in EPU. All else (that I see) points to DDR-5. Maybe you see some things that I do not.

Thank you for taking the time to help.

EDIT: curious to know why they would change out what appears to be a good, fairly new reverse die -- Any thoughts?

Thanks for the follow up... Always glad to help when I can... I may have found a marker for VVs DDR 005 http://www.varietyvista.com/01a%20LC...940SDDR005.htm Stage B??? Between the tops of the letters UM in UNUM is a die dot closer to the M that may be on yours coin also.. It is showing on your pics as a white dot (on my screen)... The mint may have changed the die because they could Since only a Stage A has been reported for DDR 004 it is always possible the die got damaged beyond repair... No way to tell for sure unless it shows up with another obv die???
