    1956 Proof DDO

Got the 56 Proof DDO listed on ebay and posted here by WS as a heads up. I am happy with the coin though it is not a gem proof. Still don't have my photo set-up operational so these shots are through the scope, only. Thanks again WS.

Glad the coin worked out. As I said many times - I come here to check with the experts. I have been known to make mistake or 2 (thousand).

That is awesome... Glad I was totally wrong on what I thought I saw... Another good reason I do not buy/sell coins... I updated your header info to include VVs listing as VV shows a FS# 101!!!

Now I must confess I thought it was DDO 7 not DDO 2. You sure there is no chin gouge like on a 7 ?? Both coins look very similar in hand. But I do agree that missing chunk out of the 6 is definitely smaller than on a 7.

Shots of the chin and rim attached. It appears that what will become a die chip on the rim is just barely showing.

OK - You got me convinced. Glad for you its DDO 2 because 7 is more common.

I have a question... Could yours be an early Stage A??? Comparing your date with VVs samples on VVs there appears to be trenches to the SE on each of the numbers beginning in Stage A and becoming more prominent in the later die stages... I do not see that on your date unless the reflection from your coin is subduing the trench???

I think that "trenching" is light doubling on VV. There certainly is non present on this coin. I agree that it is an early Stage A in that the chip on the rim is just beginning to form on this coin and it appears well advanced on the VV coin.

                              Another nice one George.
And super images, especially for a proof.
