1984 possibly a new variety doubled ear

Here is a penny I found just a week or two ago. Please let me know what you folks think. It could be a bubble but the shape and placement suggest to me otherwise.IMG_20190523_210624.jpgIMG_20190523_210648.jpgIMG_20190523_210510.jpgIMG_20190523_211205.jpgIMG_20190523_210227.jpgIMG_20190523_210240.jpgIMG_20190523_211030.jpgIMG_20190523_211048.jpgIMG_20190523_210940.jpg

    1984 doubled ear possible

Here are some pictures of the tie and beard. I think I can see some doubling on both of them.IMG_20190523_214800.jpgIMG_20190523_214852.jpgIMG_20190523_214927.jpgIMG_20190523_215036.jpg

The coin also has a ridge ring.

The ear lump may be a bubble, there is a bubble behind his head so the one near the ear might be another.

Still, you never know. If I found the first example of the 06 ear DDO I probably would have mistook it for a bubble.

      Some ways to know more:
If it flattens would rule it out but many bubbles wont especially if it had years to fill up with zinc oxide.
If other examples can be found would prove it's not a bubble.
Experts might come to a conclusion based on overlays or seeing other doubling and studying the coin in hand.

        Thanks Ed,
I may take it to work with me today and see if I can push it down with a toothpick or something. To be honest I really don't think it is a bubble but them again I guess I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

Doubledood - if I were you I would not try to deflate that anomaly right now. No reason to hurry and possibly scratch the cent. What I would do is set it aside until you are able to get better pics or send it to one of the attributers to be examined.

            Thank you VAB2013,
I haven't had hardly any free time today at all to do anything. I'll take your advice. When I get the time I need to look at camera's and handheld microscopes. I would like to get something decent but not spend a million dollars I don't have.
            Thanks for the good advice,
            Brad

What is it exactly that you are basing things on? Is it the slight doubling to the left of the entire ear? Is it the 'blob' to the southwest or south of the ear lobe? Right now, I would say the doubling is MD. The blobs are something like bubbles. they also don't show doubling of anything that I can tell. The photos of the neck and tie appear to show something, but they are not in the same direction, nor is the spread the same as the ear area. If clearer photos can be obtained, it might change things.

                Thanks Bob,
Your bluntness and to the point personality is appreciated. I respect that in a person. When I took the pictures I had light coming from different directions. So that is probably why things aren't matching up the way they should. Then again it is just a blob unless confirmed otherwise. Taking pictures of coins is pretty new to me and it's something that I absolutely have to get better at if I enjoy this hobby and I do. I need to decide on what I want to get and work with. Apparently my phone and a loupe isn't cutting it.
                Thanks,
                Brad

I think a loupe and phone can really hide some things but you have to use what you have right? Thanks for taking my comments as they were intended. I never have been a person who sugar coats anything. With that being said, this one is not done yet. If some photos can be taken that change things, I will certainly say so. If worse comes to worse, I would be willing to have a look at it in hand and give you my take on it. I am sure some folks here can vouch for me. Good luck.

                    Thank Bob,
I believe your plenty trustworthy, no problems there. And I may send it to you if I don't get something to take better pictures soon (I would pay you for your service). Do you have any suggestions for a camera, handheld microscopes, a coin microscope that takes pictures??? Is there a cordless handheld microscope that works with Bluetooth? I'm not afraid to spend money for my hobby, I don't know about thousand's though.
                    Thanks,
                    Brad

I personally use a stereo microscope and a Nikon Coolpix 7900 camera. Total value at the time was around $500. However, these are many years old and I choose not to keep up with technology when I am not taking as many photos as before.

I think I will leave this question to the others out there who are relative newcomers and have dramatically improved their photo taking skills. They would be better suited to let you know what's out there right now that would be an improvement from what you have.

If you ever do decide for me to have a look at it, just PM me and we will work things out.

                        Thanks Bob,
I have a Sony slr I can use that I gave to my son because I wasn't using it. He doesn't even use it anymore, he uses his phone. I just put out an email to someone about a camera arm. If I get one of them I should be able to mount it to my bench or to the wall. Then at that point I just need to either get a chip reader that works with my phone or figure something else out. Like a laptop witch I was trying to stay away from because our internet is so slow at the house. I do feel like I'm getting on track to taking better pictures.
                        Thanks again

Doubledood, what type of Sony camera do you have? It might be beneficial to run that by Ray Parkhurst before you invest in a camera arm or stand for it.

I don't really remember I will let you know when I get home. 660 comes to mind but that might not be right. I do know it seemed pretty expensive when I bought it.
