Question about Variety Vista 1968S RPM-003

Going through some 68S's and this one seems to have similar attributes to the questionable RPM listing on Variety Vista. I do not see the Wexler file on this one and there are no photos on Coppercoins.

What do you guys think? Is the MM placement correct? Are the die flow lines I'm seeing worth checking this out? There are no markers in the attribution notes to check. If there's any way to check this one it might prove that VV listing is die deterioration because it doesn't look like a RPM to me.

    Viv,

I'm come across a few examples of 003, and I don't believe yours is the same. That being said, I do see a split upper serif on yours.

Thanks Jody! I'm not seeing the split, maybe it's glare related. Let me get a Ray System shot of it. That's cool you have found some 003's! Looks like Dr. Wiles is asking for some help on updated pics for this one if you would like to send one to him.

I'm sorry I didn't have time to post for you Viv. From the pics I see. I would say no. Here is RPM#3 Stage "C". The pic on Variety Vista was one of my coins Dr. Wiles Photographed. He is still looking at them to make 100% sure this IS an RPM. I sold all three I had years ago.

Un less there is something on the southern curve of your pics I don't see. They are different.

RPM#3 has nothing on the upper curve in stage "C"

Thank you very much Eric for your help! Actually, I worded this thread wrong. I didn't think the one I have is a RPM, I just thought the position of the MM looked close and the die flow lines were very similar in places. What you have is awesome looking and I hope it turns out 100% to be a RPM! Please follow up with us and let us know!

Added: Sorry Jody... I thought I misplaced this 68S in the clean up shuffle, was looking all over for it just now and sat back down at my desk and... there it was! I'll get some pics of this MM to see if I can see what you are seeing. Thank you!

Not sure if Jody will come back to this thread, sorry I'm just catching up with pics. I think where Jody was seeing a split on the top of this S was from camera glare (Celestron). I could not see the top split with the Ray System, but oddly I see what might be a small lower split (in the side view pic). Too small to matter, even if it is. I'm going to check with Ray to see if I can get a stronger magnification lens, I would like to be able to get a tad closer.

Nice pics. I do see that split lower serif. Must have been the lighting on the other pic. Which lens are you using for that? 35mm?

I see the split lower serif also... May be one of those TMTLs??? As the others said your MM is to far east and north for 003!!!
