1964 D 1.4 grams?

I got some pennies from the bank a brick and half, the bank said they have been in the vault for 25 years and I believe them, I'm finding a lot of stuff like this 1.4 gram cent. I don't know if it is real or not, but I can't see any evidence of tampering except for the rim is missing. I might have posted this in the wrong place, Please advise............Dan

Looks acidy to me. I would think a planchet struck that thin wouuld not show the devices as this one does. And it is clealy not a split planchet.

That was my thought also Roller, it is unknown to me how something that thin could have been struck with most all devizes showing. Maybe someone has seen one like it, I never have. Thanks for your thoughts...............Dan

Not very knowledgeable on errors, but I had one similar to yours once and it had a very pitted surface so mine was either acid or environmental damage.

I have seen some coins that were dipped in acid, but this one looks a lot clearer than those I've seen no pitted surface, still it could be so. Still unknown at this point. Thank you Viv, for your thoughts.....................Dan

Yeah I agree Dan, that's a very thin planchet compared to normal and if you're not seeing any pitting... that is puzzling!

I agree that this is an acid coin. Remember that acid will remove metal uniformly if it is fully submerged, so most devices will be present. Good call.

Acid damage and worthless good answer, I would have never known. I'll keep it along with all my other coins as an example I don't have one of these and now I do. Thank you for the attribution jallengomez..................Dan

The pattern on it, especially easy to see on the rev is from acid.

When you handle these like drop on a table or drop into the cent pile they make a clink sound.
