The area in question is uneven, which is why I think it is a die chip or maybe a bubble.
The ear on Lincoln often has a hit, has MD, a nearby bubble, a gouge, a chip or a clash mark which resemble hub doubling on a few later examples ('97P & '06P).
1997P DDO-001 was thought to be a chip by some specialists for a while and wasn't really confirmed until Potter was able to identify other details in the ear and hair to prove hub doubling. 2006P almost looks like a well shaped air bubble (it is not obviously). Are there more doubled ears out there? Maybe, but there are millions of deceptive examples that have to be gone through to find it.
