    [Example] 1934 fs-013.79 101 (ddo-004)

I have a 1934 DDO-004 I purchased from Chris below. It's the one with the huge, albeit lightly hubbed, spread. Wexler has it as a class IV & VIII, while Wiles has it as a I & IV. I see it as a IV an VIII with a little rotation that I could not classify specifically as either a V or I.

The overlay is the 2nd photo from the top. There has been previous discussion on this DDO, I would suggest searching the forums for more information. The position of the overlay is not 100% as the clarity of this example is not as clear as the example Wiles or Wexler shot.

I was lucky to get one of these as there are only a handful known. Thanks Chris!

I was wondering what it looked like, since there was no picture on coppercoins. Awesome looking doubled die!

Makes me want to look at my bag of 1930-39. I know there were allot of 34 in there. Never look for it.

This one is hard to find but worth the search. I suspect that if the die made it past MDS that the doubling probably just faded into the flow lines. I also would guess that it is nearly impossible to pick out in lower grades.

Actually, Jason, your last statement is not necessarily correct. The only example I have ever found was a blackened, then brasso cleaned VF example that is quite embarrassing to look at, but it's real...and it's the only one in my collection. The coin is EDS, so the doubling shows VERY well, even through the corrosion.

I wouldn't expect my statement to apply to an experienced searcher or expert such as yourself Chuck. I can promise you, the version I shot would go unnoticed to many searchers. It could be that a F/VG EDS may very well be detectible with or reasonable effort, but being there are so few found one can only presume that there are not easy to spot or very few minted.

If the coin pictured had circulated to VG, none of us would be able to see the doubling below the date. As it is, I nearly missed it when it was in a 2x2 pulled from a dealer's box.
