    [Example] 1928 WDDO-001 (obscure DDO) Class V

Dennis (DCW) sent me this obscure 1928 DDO to photograph. It shows a class V (or seemingly class V) on the 28 of the date. I only know of Wexler listing it. You can find it illustrated in ARLC 2 as WDDO-001. Neither Wexler's MDS nor this LDS yielded any die markers. I have shown the doubling, and some highlights of the die flow lines. It's nice, but hard to detect. An earlier die state might show doubling somewhere else - it may also not. This was not easy to photograph. I settled on whole coin shots that made the coin look better, but does not show the doubling on the '28. Thanks Dennis!

The pick up point is the doubling on the 8.

Interesting and a coincidence in that I just found an EF+ 1928 in a roll and although I glanced at it under the scope, I didn't really look at the date all that close. I'll have to check it out more carefully for that Class V.

The doubling almost looks like MD. Look closely and you'll see the doubled areas make the devices look a tad thicker. If you take the doubled areas away, the devices would be a normal size. With MD the area taken away would have made the devices smaller than normal.

interesting speciman, Jcuve. One could almost concentrate on the Northeast doubling of the 2 , the outer portion of the eight or even the inner diameter of the 8 for shape.

I would really like to see an EDS or EMDS some day. I will have to start looking for this anytime I see a 1928.

Great shots again, Jay. This one has intrigued me since I saw it in Wexler and Flynn's book. Im quite surprised the thread died with little interest in this early wheat doubled die. Especially with the spread on the date like that.

I'll start looking for one Jason. It's my fathers birth year and probably easier to find than one of the RPM's in BU

I do think one has decent chance of finding one of these at a show or with a dealer. Date doubling tends to be more popular. Let's find some more of these!
