I just joined this forum as a new member. It looks really promising and I am looking forward to participating. As I stumble around the website trying to learn the ropes I find myself on this post about yet another round of commemorative dollar coins. Yes, I admit it, I am a friendly Canadian who is bemused by the endless failed attempts to interest the American public in a dollar coin. Here in Canada we have had the dollar and two dollar coins for two decades and they work just fine thank you very much. Anybody have any idea why they don't fly in the states? This is just an introductory question and then we'll move along to the question of the Two Dollar bill, which also worked just fine in Canada for decades. Different strokes for different folks, for sure, and I respect that. But I still find it silly when I'm in Michigan and my wallet fills up with one dollar bills. What do you think you guys?

Probably the biggest reason is that they've never stopped making $1 bills. A set up that would work with the current trays in the registers is to put the $2 bill where the dollar ones used to go and place the $1 coins where the halves used to be. Not a big change if the goverment would just cut the making of the $1 bills. Cut production of the haves as they are no longer used. Problem solved.

          Welcome to the forum.

I would move your post to the New User Introductions, but for some reason this thread cannot have the posts edited by a MOD.

          I agree with Coop's points...

Because the 1$ coin is not very useful. The USA will never be rid of the $1 note, however!!!! How else are you going to go to a strip club? Nobody is going to start handing out $2s or $5s, and nobody is going there with 30 lbs worth of coins not to mention it is too difficult for them to carry 50 presidential dollars in their g-strings at once. On a serious note: The previous may sound like a jestful post, but American's hate carrying pocketfuls of change. Bills are lighter and less cumbersome. If anything, we should go back to printing 50 cent notes.

I agree with coop's points too....we need to just eliminate the 1 dollar bill and let people get used to it. It might be an inconvenience, but we're in debt up to our necks and it's about time people are inconvenienced.Using coins instead of bills would save a lot of money.

I really do agree... poor strippers.

However, I don't believe this will help our debt in any way. But, that's a different topic.
