    A new Verb, perhaps?

I was searching through some coins this afternoon. My dad came in and said "Are you numismatizing again?" I thought it sounded pretty funny, and I don't know if there is a single word that describes the action of "specifically searching through coins". Maybe I'll send this to some people and get it in a dictionary...

Numismatize (new-miss-ma-ties): verb; to go through the actions of coin inspection or study.

Use in a sentence: "I'll be at my desk, I need to numismatize for a while".

Origin: Right here on the LCR!

    variations:

numismatizing: the present-progressive form. "I'm numismatizing right now"

numismatized: the past tense form. "I'm sure that Bob numismatized throughout the weekend."

numismatizer: a noun describing an individual who searches through coins but does not collect or study coinage (doesn't make much sense).
"Wow, that guy is such a numismatizer. I also don't know what that means."

numismatizable: an adjective describing a batch of coins that seems worthy of searching through. "This bag of unsearched indian head pennies seems numismatizable..."

enjoy, feel free to add variations/more sentences...

LCR is already on Facebook. Someone could put the link there.

Love it! Don't really need numismatizer, however, as numismatist works just fine for that one.

I am totally going to try!

To Wendell: I didn't really like numismatizer either, I kind of threw it in to try to get as many definitions as possible. If numismatize ends up being a word I think I'd ditch "numismatizer"...

UPDATE: A few days ago I sent the original definition to the marriam-webster online dictionary: Just checked the website and the word greeted me under the "open dictionary" section! Now if I could only add all the other forms....

Find definitions for over 300,000 words from the most authoritative English dictionary. Continuously updated with new words and meanings.

                          It's numismatistically noteworthy!
