Forum trolls

Just want to give you guys my take on forum trolls. These trolls are usually sneaky but over time become apparent by the fact that they don't fall in line with the group. Most of their posts will be pointless or arguementative.The biggest motivation for a troll is to anger as many people as possible while acting as innocent as possible. So keep in mind that responses only stimulate the troll and the best way to deal with them is no response at all. They will either go away or become angered enough to do something that will get them kicked off.
Why do they do this ? I've seen members kicked off other forums come back as trolls under another name and sometimes they just join because they have nothing better in life to do.As they say "misery loves company". Don't give them the satisfaction !

Dealing with Troublesome Users
Can I block posts, emails and messages from specific users?

If there are particular members that bother you and you do not want to see their posts or receive Private Messages and Emails from them, then you can add these members to your 'Ignore List'. There are several ways to do this:

Through your User Control Panel: User CP, Settings & Options, Edit Ignore List. Then, type their name into the empty text box and click 'Okay'.

What if I see something offensive?

You will find 'Report' links in many places throughout the board. These links allow you to alert the board staff to anything which you find to be offensive, objectionable or illegal.

I also consider the possibility of competetor site espionage... Just my thought... Disrupt the forum enough with their post and they can cause people to leave!!!

Steven, I once wrote a poem/story on 2 gnomes and their existence here on the earth's plane...and there you go...posting a picture of them on my favourite forum!

If I can say something in defense to humankind.

We are all different people with different agendas. Some are more innocent than others while some are more direct and whilst others are oblivious to their effects of their energy.

Being absent lately and catching up on posts gone by, I see that I have missed quite a bit of Drama. It takes all kinds to make the world go around. This is not something new.

Maineman has produced a valid a point about trolls and Tink also provided information on how to deal with these trolls.

But everyone, please don't forget, it takes all types to make a well rounded place we call LCR. Some of us are fairies, angels, golbins, elves, humans and yes...trolls.

Deceitfulness is not one attribute I agree with, but we are all faulty in life somewhere are we not?

2 viable and harmonious ways to deal with Trolls....

1. You can choose Tink's method and ignore the user, either by clicking ignore or physically passing over the user's posts.
2. Simply accept who each person if for what they are and proceed forward with LCR with total acceptance of each user's personality.

What I have seen here in the past couple months, now with 2 users, sounds a lot like sibling rivalry or like a group of school kid friends just not getting along.

Your comments about humankind are noteworthy Lara, and I admire the tenacity you show to make that point.. We want everyone to get along and 'play nice'. Unfortunately, there are exceptions to the rule too. I am not saying this is an example of that, but we do need to police our forum. We will see where this goes.
