Thanks for the info. Guess I blew it by opening the boxes. May not be worth having them graded at this point .. which is fine too. Doesn't make me like these sets any less

If you are looking to the future you might want to sell then it would be worthwhile especially if any of your coins might have a chance for MS/PF-70.

The sets are for collector's but selling the sets is overshadowing the coins as collectibles.

I will have mine graded (if I get the set) just to put into my collection. I am hoping for a variety or error in my set to make it more collectible.

More Buzz On The 25th Sets

well this is getting interesting. we know about the 2 unique coins in the set, which are the reverse proof and the "S" mint mark coin.

the original story was that the bullion coins were ALL minted at San Francisco so even though there is no "S" mintmark on the coin, the slab would have (S) on it.
then.....PCGS called the mint and some bubble head told them that the mint has no way of knowing if the bullion coin was made at West Point or San Francisco...so PCGS decided to not put the (S) on the bullion coins.

the latest buzz is that the mint spokesman (the head honcho) has confirmed that indeed all the bullion coins for this set were in fact specialy minted in SF. There is also a discovery that the bullion coins from SF have a completely different finish than the regularly available bullion common coins. The bullion coin in the set has a burnished look to it and it does not look anything like the commonly available bullion coin.

so now this might mean that the 25th anniversary set has not 2 unique coins in it....but 3 unique coins!

I think that this set contains the very first silver eagles ever minted at SF....but i am not really positive.Maybe someone knows if thats correct?

all the people who opened the boxes and sold the "common" coins in the set may be very sorry they did so.

you can compare photos of regular bullion coins against the bullion coin in the set here:
Have any of you taken a careful look at the so-called "Bullion" no mint mark coin contained in the 25th Anniversary ASE set?

looks almost like a satin finish and so far everyone with open sets all say that their bullion coin looks the same.

I think it is kinda interesting Wayne (and Thanks for the info) and who knows who will have the error coin in there set (or will it be errors?).

I will let the grading services sort this one out as I for one am sending my sealed set in to NGC.

I have read that, even posted about it on another forum. I decided to open mine, and boy I'm glad I did. There is a difference in the coins finish for sure. I am waiting to hear what the official stance is first. But when I opened mine all 5 coins were not in their holder. There was no damage but, for a lot of others there was.

Kimseyo, you probably shouldn't post your phone number here. Just saying. People can always PM you.

Yea this coin set is unreal. It's really going nuts. They are very beautiful coins and these will be a big deal for a long time.

My box arrived with the label broken and part of the tape. This precludes me sending it to NGC under there submission program so I went ahead and opened the box totally to ensure that the set was intact.

The set was there so it looks like another package somewhere along the line broke the tape and label.

No problem as I have the set and well pleased as the mint did an outstanding job putting this one together for the collector's.
