    Paper money

    Hi,

Does anyone here collect paper money as well?

The reason I'm asking is because I went to my bank today to convert some CAD to US for my weekend shopping spree (woohoo!!!), and I received 2 star notes. They are $1 and were made in 2009.

I remember seeing somewhere that star notes carry a premium.

When Barett and I tried to research them, much to our surprise, we couldn't find any useful sites. So we searched ebay and the only ones we came across were star notes with printing errors.

Again, we tried to research 'printing errors star notes' and to no avail. Nada but useless info.

Sooooo, before I get greedy and shop for myself and no one on my Xmas list this weekend shall I spend these 2 guys or not? They are consecutive and in MINT condition. (I'm almost thinking of going back and asking for 100 of these lol)

Any help would be appreciated. I uploaded a scan of them.

    Thanks!

    Happy Turkey Day everyone!!

    Lara

I would keep them because of the condition and that they are consecutive notes.

        Wealth of knowledge!

Wow, talk about knowing stats my friend!

That is cool to know thank you. I guess I should head my butt back to the bank first think tomorrow morning to grab the rest?

And what about my $10 star note? (while I have your attention lol)

It is GL 10287310* L12 2004A series? condition is NOT the greatest but I do have some in worse shape.

That run of $10 GL* isnt the money note of the series. If its really wrinkled, torn ink or has writing on it I wouldnt loose sleep in missing it or spending it. If you get one of the 1st run GL*'s 0000 0001 - 0012 8000 Thats your big ticket note starting around 50$ + in better grades. you can sometimes cherry pick the notes at shows for $10 or 15 and profit off them

            Cool Thank you.

So...from now on I have someone's brain on here I can pick whenever I come across any US funny money? hehehehe.

Don't worry, I won't be asking too often I don't run my store anymore so I'm not privy to US paper money as often anymore

            Again, thank you

Jay I knew you never sweat the small stuff but your keen knowledge of notes was amazing. Such info is really revealing. Thanks for sharing.

What is an SOI test note? and how would one identify it as being different from any other $1 note?

I've been hunting for a $1 web press note for the last few months. Without any luck of course...

I've been swapping packs of $500 at the bank for a while now, but they stopped on series '97 so, I'm not holding out too much hope to find one in circulation.

I read somewhere that the average life expectancy of the $1 note in circulation is about 18 months...

Congrats on your star note finds! Let us know if you're able to get the rest of the stack!

                      -Jason

SOI notes are $1 notes that are printed on the new presses the govt is using for note printing. The only notes printed in the 2006 series on this press are the following plate #s ( only way to tell is to know the numbers)(side with the serial numbers)

                          AF (FP 160 166 170
                          FR (FP 222 223 231
                          GF (FP 160 166 170
                          LP (FP 156 157 and 161

Also if you look at the 2006 $20s youll see the face of the note ( with sn ) small and large size face plate numbers the larger numbers are those of the new printing presses while the smaller ones are of the older presses

Ok, so I'm looking at my $20's now (only 3 of them for 2006) and I see one that is different. The first 2 read: D 243; E 369 and then the last one reads: FW H 39

Are there what you are referring to?
