Shown are two pictures of a Lead Seal, (Circa 1650) that was used to seal Spanish Coin (Treasure) Bags bound for Spain.
The seals were used to keep the ships crew members honest while the Bags of Coins were intransit. Much like the older Mint bags which were sealed with Lead and string to try and keep everyone honest.
I found this in 1987 in Puerto Bello, Panama while Metal detecting in some ruins.
One side Shows the Cross with Castles and Lions on side similar to a One (1) Real Cob.
The other side has a Castle enclosed on a shield similar to a Lima 1/4 Real design.
Just thought I would throw out something different to look at.
