Your coin is not fake. It is a real 1859 cent. One of the things that can be confusing to cent collectors who have not had much experience with coins this old is that cents were made of a different (copper-nickel) composition in 1859. They are a little thicker than current cents, and are a different color.

Roger, you got me beat by 4 years...I have the 1864 I stumbled upon in Golden Gate Park many years ago. From what I know I think mine was minted before they made the composition switch. It is certainly a much thicker cent than other IHPs I compared it to.
