    2 Cent question

I wonder how likely it would be to put a 2 cent clip collection together. I assume like for many 1871,72 and 73 ( being a proof only year) that a complete set would be 1864-1870-71. I wonder how many clips there are and if its doable by year. How hard can it be to put together 7 or 8 little clips together. Any thoughts or discussion points.

I would assume that it would be a very expensive venture. Most clips (if any) from those years I am sure would be highly valued pieces in personal collections, so the owners would have to be willing to let them go. We would have to assume that there were clips that year also. In addition, some clips would take out the date.
The 2 cent coins are very collectible in their own right, and not a lot of people have one. Here is the only 2 cent piece I have. I guess you can see why I love it so much.

It would be interesting to hear if they even had clips back then..guess we would need to know the process of planchet making through the years.

Had an 1806 half cent with rotated reverse and straight clip.
Paid 50 for it and it was appraised at 50. Was told the clip hurt the value of it.

If clips hurt the value the more coins per dollar for me

I have never seen a clip on a 2 cent coin...

                I did build a rotated die 2 cent set...1864 rotated 90 deg. cw , and 180 deg.
Had to go to 1865 for a 90 deg. ccw.. giving me the 4 points on a compass......
It took me 2 years to find the 3....and in that time I never saw a true 2 cent clip....

saw some cut coins but I could see the metal squeezed together as it was cut...

Good Luck...love to see that set...I love 2 cents
