    Coin Microscopes.

Anyone here have any experience with those 60X mini coin microscopes that sell on ebay for less than 5 bucks?

60X is too strong. The max is 10X. With the stronger power everything looks like something when it isn't.

I have a loupe with an LED. The LED washes out the details of the coin. I usually turn it off.

I do agree with this, BUT I wouldnt say that anything higher then 10x is to small. I'm pretty sure that i am currently using a 60x I love the great detail i get. I will agree that you will see things that are not actual DD but once you learn the difference between everything i personally think higher magnification is better. It not needed for pictures or anything like that i agree x10 is all that you need. I greatly enjoy looking at coins under higher magnification.

This is just my opinion. I'm not saying that Richard is wrong because everyone will tell you 60X IS TO BIG!! this is just how i feel about it.

I use one of those cheap 60x Scopes all the time. I am to cheap, let me rephrase that, my wife is too cheap to let me get a real nice AM scope. I don't use the LED. It works fine for my bad eyes.

I would be afraid of anything that sells for $5 when a cheap one sells for $40.

Good advice there. You're not going to be happy with anything like that. I bought a $100 Celestron once, and even that was cheap, and just about worthless.

I know we are talking about loupe-type scopes here, but just to make a point... I bought my digital microscope (the one I use to photograph and post all of my pics) for under $30. It seems to be able to do everything the domestic ones do that cost hundreds of dollars. Heck, this thing even shoots video, which would come in handy if I ever decide to shoot amoeba porn. As long as you don't mind waiting for it to be shipped on a pontoon raft from Hong Kong....

You may be right Willbrooks, but I purchased two of them..one being a Zorb, and I forget the other...they worked fine...for a bit...now they are in a landfill.

Oh yeah, I make no testament to the longevity of this device. But at that price, I will just order a half-dozen next order.

At $5...I would think you would need half a dozen per week
