Folks mind if I post a Roosevelt Dime DDo or MD SD

Found this really unique doubled up 1983 D Roosevelt dime. This is probably an MD SD although the doubling is really strange to my eyes and rather enormous. Please look at at the top half of BERTY in Liberty and any comments are welcome. Additionally I toned down the lighting glare and sharpened at least two pics to draw out the distinct doubling charateristics. Mike / Mgfrd1959

      It's not a doubled die.

nop, is not. A bold MDD tough! I like this type of errors, aldough I beleive they are considered more like defective coin than error coin when this machine doubling occours..

        thanks for sharing it!

Looks mostly like die deterioration doubling to me.

            Thanks for the input

I assumed when I posted it was not a DDO although you have to admit the doubling is different. Question / what does MDD stand for / maybe machine double deterioration. Thanks again. Mike / Mgfrd

MDD is pretty confusing. Some use it to describe a "machine doubled die", which technically is incorrect because it is not a doubled die. Some use it to describe "master die doubling", although when people see it they confused it with machine doubling. For me, I say machine doubling should be abbreviated MD, and master die doubling should be MDD.

To add to Simon's post, I have seen MDD used for "machine doubling damage." In fact, I think LCR uses this in it's glossary of abbreviations. Most people use just MD for machine doubling. It can be confusing for sure.
