let's take a little trip down memory lane and let the younger members know what it was like to purchase proof sets & mint
sets from the u.s. mint. in 1961 when i first started collecting coins you could purchase from the u.s. mint proof sets
for $2.10 ea. with 100 sets allowed per household. mint sets were $2.40 ea. p&d mints of each, cent thru half. but the
best part of this was the 90% silver these sets contained. unfortunately we did'nt know they were to stop making
90 % silver for circulation; as 1964 was the last year.
on another note; for all young silver dollar enthusiast's, back in the early 60's most bank tellers at any bank
had morgan and peace dollars sitting in their drawers. yes you got them for $1.00 ea. why did they have them ? because
no one knew at the time that most 90% silver coins would wind up being melted or hoarded! (yes chris , hoarded. lol )
so as long as you are able to; keep buying , keep collecting ,and keep enjoying what you do. the fact is nobody knows
whats in store for tomorrow !
