    Needing a new microscope

Well folks, I went and did it... I killed my Digital Blue QX5 microscope. It was not intentional. The dratted thing only worked part of the time after I switched to a new computer with Windows 7. I could not find any download info to repair the problem. Even when I went to Digital Blue they said to wait until the brand new QX6 or 7, or whatever comes out... soon. Yeh, right.

I am looking at the Dino-lite brand and need to find one that works with Windows 7, USB, lets you take pictures, has 20-40-60X magnification, and eight little lights that can be either turned down in brightness or turned off when needed. And, no, a regular microscope with eye pieces will not work because my eyes will not focus properly with or without my glasses.

If anyone has good experiences with a really good microscope that has the aforementioned functions please let me know and I will check into it. Otherwise, I will keep looking until I find one.

    Thanx bunches,
    Jean

I wish I could offer you a suggestion, but I just wanted to add that I had the same problem at first with my scope and a Windows 7 OS. Luckily I have a programmer buddy of mine was able to unlock some hidden files on the disc and make it work for me. I don't know what specifically to say except that it may be possible to make that model compatible if you find the right geek.

I love my dino-lite as well. Just be sure to get a good stand of it.

          Thanks everyone.
I got a geek living with me. He was a senior software engineer at several big companies, but has retired and is losing touch with programming. But he is all mine and I would not trade him for any other geek on the planet.

I will check into BigG and see what they have. And will keep looking. And for sure, I will get a stand with it... preferably one with an adjustable arm.

          Thanx bunches,
          Jean

My geek hubby helped me pick out this little beauty and I hope it works like we want it to. It will be my Mother's Day, Anniversary and Birthday gift from my kids and me and my hubby.

            Thanx bunches for everyone's help.

              Update to the microscope story

Well folks, I received the microscope that was in the link I gave in a previous post in this thread and I am going to send it back.
Simply put, I do not find very easy to use and definitely not worth the money it cost.

I wish my old QX5 would work on my newer computer system because it was easy to use. I managed to take hundreds, if not, thousands, of great pictures of rpm's and doubled dies, many of which I was able to share here on LCR.
I will keep looking for a replacement so I can continue posting nice pictures.
Thank you all for your help!
