I was going through some dimes today and came across this mm. It looks to be identical to the notched mm on the 1979 d cent. Did they use the same punch on dimes as they did on cents? It is sort of interesting.

very interesting...you might want to check the letter size...
I will have to check and start looking to see if I can find a dime that would match....Member: Florida State representative for the ANA, Florida state representative for CONECA, F.U.N. and the Ocala Coin Club -
I believe they use the same punch for all denominations.YN with a Lincoln Obsession! Check out my eCrater site

They did not use the same punch for all denominations for a given year.

I guess I am not following that info correctly as I don't see any info on dimes other than "S" mm's. All I am saying is that it looks like the same punch was used on both a cent and dime, and maybe more denominations. Look at the other 79 cents and dimes there are both with the split punch and a solid punch. I would think that the mint would make several punches or more for the series mm's for that year or years that style was in use.Comment

I have no idea which mm punch they used for dimes in '79, but a statement was made that "they use the same punch for all denominations" and that is not correct. They might have very well used the same punch on dimes that they did on Cents for 1979, but it's not a given.“What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence.”Comment

In this case that is the same broken punch used on both denominations.
