Coin collectors talking about fossils and rocks

    Hi guys,

Here is a thread where you can share photos of your work space! Please feel free to contribute. Lets keep it to 3 pictures per member maximum.

Today I bought and put together my new "coin space". I got a desk and a little tabletop light from Ikea, all for under a hundred bucks. My previous systems of organization were not working out, so I figured I would set up a new system.

    Simon

You don't have to do this, but I labeled things for clarity.

    1) Cents to be searched
    2) Magical research device
    3) Nasco scope
    4) Cents searched (to be later redeemed at a CoinStar)
    5) Bin for wheat set cents
    6) Coins I plan to photograph soon (moved after I photograph them)
    7) Assorted minor doubled dies and RPMs
    8) Bags of unsorted/unsearched wheats pulled from circulation and purchases.
    9) Reading material/Coinworld magazines (hoping to get a cherrypicker's guide soon)
    10) More cents to be searched
    11) Coins up on my site/in the process of going on the site
    12) envelopes, 2X2, flips

Nice fossil collection I collect fossils myself. Mostly Carboniferous plants around here though.
Life is not about greatness but on the impact of good onto others. It is a matter of how much one shines. Explains why I like shiny coins.

Thanks, I collect meteorites/fossils as a side hobby. I like coins just a little bit more, though.

It's a plaster cast of one, so it's not real. But the rest of the stuff is all real fossils.

This is a good thread to show how people approach their hobby. It also seems like if you are a coin collector, you tend to collect other stuff as well. I, like Simon collect Fossils as well.

The first pic shows my scope set-up. I try to keep it as tidy as possible, especially when dealing with other people's coins. The second pic shows the library of books I have as well as my personal varirty/error collection. All of the white binders are doubled dies, and the blue binders are RPMs. These are just my personal collection, and does not include the boxes and boxes of duplicates. The third pic is what I hide in the closet. Other than one bag of uncirc Memorials from 1959-1994, these are all wheaties...most have been searched, but there are a couple of bags I haven't been through yet. Most all of this is going back into my storage unit shortly.

The other pics show some of my Fossil collection. I have numerous Trilobites, orthoceras, and ammonites. The large slab with the multiple fossils on it I dug up myself on a dig in Morracco. in the early 70s.

As far as the last pic...I just had to! This was one of the funniest photos I have seen in a while. Enjoy!!

I collect fossils as well. I frequent St. Clair, PA (40 minutes north of me) for some fossilized bark, fern fossils, and the occasional pocket of pyrite crystals. I also am an amateur gold panner. I frequent Peach Bottom, PA and pan for gold in various creeks. Nothing to write home about, but I've found quite a few nice flakes in the time I've been doing it.

Very nice collection Bob. When I was 10 or so I went through a trilobite "phase", where I was completely obsessed with them. I got them at gift shops, on ebay, and even dug up a few at a fossil site in upstate New York. For now, I occasionally go down to the ocean and search along the cliffs for fossils. No trilobites, mostly shells as you can see in the photos. They are about 2 million years old, when San Francisco was the bed of a shallow sea.

Also included a photo of my most prized geologic find, an actual meteorite that I found when exploring a dry lake bed near Reno.

It is interesting to see that a lot of coin collectors also collect fossils!

Wierd. I collect fossils too. I have a bunch from Utah from that trilobite trench place featured on travel channel.
