The post office taped the box up with their box tape which is why I said it is odd that there no tape on the box. ( Blue USPS Logo)
This is the end of the box he said was opened.Attached FilesMatthew SalleeComment

So,do you think it is your box ? If not, send him a message and tell him to keep the box as the Postal authorities will need to see it. If is is trying to scam you, that might make him come up with an excuse.Comment

I agree with Roger on this. Also the photo of the "opened" end seems very odd. I have done some checking, it seems that normal protocol for issues where a box has been opened in transit, is to send it back to the sender."If Free Speech stops when someone gets offended, it is not really Free Speech."Comment

Well Sean, I was just discussing a case where the package was opened and delivered. The contents (including cash) were still in the box. And...the reciever was a postal employee.Comment

Wow, that is amazing. I guess there is no policy for them to abide by then. So it is left up to the individual post offices. That is a bit disturbing. The link I posted a couple of posts up gives details on how to open a case with USPS."If Free Speech stops when someone gets offended, it is not really Free Speech."Comment

I'll be able to ask him next weekend at breakfast. Do you have a link where it says that they have to return opened packages to the sender ? I just want to be able to say something other than "I heard it on the internet"Comment

Roger, that is why I stated that there was no policy. Trying to find policy of an agency is like pulling teeth. I researched online and found 3 stories where items were returned to senders. I have also found 2 stories where the item was delivered open. I would think the place where this could have taken place is the post office in which the sticker was applied, and the post office or center it was at just prior to that."If Free Speech stops when someone gets offended, it is not really Free Speech."Comment

A response I received from Paypal recently about an inquiry I made which may assist you:
Our Seller Protection protects you from claims, chargebacks or reversals that are a result of unauthorized purchases or items your buyer didn’t receive. With PayPal’s Seller Protection, you are protected for the full amount of all eligible transactions.
If a transaction is eligible for seller protection, it will be marked as eligible or partially eligible on the ‘Transaction Details’ page. If it is marked as partially eligible, you are only protected for items a buyer didn’t receive. Transactions of $250.00 or more requires the customer signs for the merchandise.
Here are some additional requirements you need to meet for seller protection:
Ship the item to the address on the ‘Transaction Details Page.’
The goods must be physical items that can be posted.
Provide proof of delivery (we require online tracking to confirm delivery).
Respond to our requests for documentation and other information.
To learn more about PayPal’s Seller Protection Policy, click ‘Legal Agreements’ at the bottom of any PayPal page, and then click ‘PayPal User Agreement.’
Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We value what you have to say, and we know situations like this can be difficult. If you have more questions, visit our Help Center by clicking "Help" in the top right corner of any PayPal page.
Add your mobile number to your PayPal account so we can reach you right away if we ever need to verify account activity with you. Simply log in to your PayPal account, click "Profile" near the top of the page and then click "Update" beside "Phone."
You can also make and receive payments with your mobile phone when you add it to your PayPal account. After you confirm your number and create a PIN, you'll be able to get money, send money, check your balance, or manage your account from your phone using simple text messages.
EDIT: If you can prove you packed the box well and shipped properly in accordance to the buyer's specifications, I think you'd be fine. The buyer didn't request insurance.Comment

I'm sorry to hear this happened to you. I've been on both sides of this type of scenario. The most recent was a seller who shipped me 120 rolls in a large flat rate box. He had stacked the rolls in the box with minimal packaging, and no tape to reinforce the box. When I received the box, it had damaged corners that had torn open, and about 50% of the plastic coin tubes inside had been broken. Coins were spilling out all over the place. I took an immediate picture right there on the post office counter as soon as I saw the box. I successfully worked it out with the seller.
It honestly doesn't surprise me that this box of coins did not make it intact to the destination. From the photos that I saw, the box you sent had only a piece of tape at one end. My advice would be that from now on, you wrap tape around the entire box, especially at the corners and seams. Given the weight of even a small flat-rate box full of coins, the self-adhesive tape that comes on the boxes is completely insufficient, and without copious amounts of packaging tape, the first time a box gets thrown from one bin to another, the old force=mass x acceleration formula is going to come into play, and damage is likely going to occur without the reinforcement. I too learned this lesson about the adhesive power(or lack thereof) of the flat-rate boxes.Last edited by jallengomez; 10-17-2012, 10:15 AM.“What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence.”Comment

Cases of tape are literally a portion of my business cost. I'm shipping out two boxes weighing 69 pounds each tomorrow (2 bags of wheats in each box) and they are fully encased in tape, several layers of it. Postal employees don't think twice to toss heavy packages on the cement floor while in transit.
So think about it- a disgruntled postal employee tosses a box whle doing the job he hates and money pours out.... what do you think is going to happen?Chris & Charity Welch- LIVEANDIEVARIETIES

I gave the post master a package, he took it in the back...30 seconds later I realized he over charged me and he went back to get it. When he brought it out it had a huge dent/ hole/rip that went straight through from tossing it in the bin.I started to complain but I did not want them playing Frisbee with it later and just asked to use their tape.Cases of tape are literally a portion of my business cost. I now buy the heavy duty packing tape it cost more but well worth it. If I am sending a heavy box I use half a roll only leaving the part they scan uncovered LOLVickiLynn
