Hi everyone!
I need some advice from those who have or have had an ebay store. Is it worth it? Does it make a difference? Do you pay less fees? Thanks!
That's a huge subjective question Alex, with millions of comments and discussion on the subject all over the web, including ebay forums. I wouldn't know where to begin. Experience is knowledge, trial & error, good for some and not for others, etc, etc

Does it make a difference compared to what? Do you pay less fees compared to what? It is all subjecrive, Alex. And I thought you already had an ebay store?
Simon,
I think he's asking if opening a store front on Ebay is cheaper in the long run than just being a regular seller. I sell on Ebay, but I don't have an Ebay store. Hopefully someone else can answer your question. I think it all depends on volume. At a certain volume, yes, it will be cheaper.

Thanks, thats what I meant. Perhaps Chris will chime in?
While I've had a lot of fun poking you and making you pay your dues, you've shown a real proclivity for reselling, wheeling and dealing.
Ebay stores make sense if you maintain more than 50 listings a month. We maintain 3 different eBay storefronts. At 50 listings a month the discount covers the subscription fees. It may keep you motivated to keep more listings maintained, though motivation for that is tough!
You've got the ability to do well Alex, keep it up non-stop and at my age you'll be a millionaire.
I used an ebay store for a while. Its great for listing fixed price items as I think it was 20 cents instead of 50 cents to list them. However you wont have access to 50 free auctions every month. Store owners have to pay for auctions, of course if you start auctions at 99 cents its only 5 cents to list them. But the higher the starting price the more you have to pay.
That was a couple months ago, maybe they changed it since then.
I average 3 sales per day and it's simply not worth it to open a store. You have to sell a LOT of items to make it worth your while. As I recall, ebay has some sort of calculator to automagically see if it's worth opening a store. I didn't need it to tell me, but it did say I was better off without.

Thanks Chris! So the discount covers the subscription, but does it out do the regular seller account? I usually have at least 50 listings going at any given time between my Dad and I.

See, this is my concern. I do sell about 30 - 40 per month totaling $250 (most of which dwindles away into fees and restocking merchandise) Where can I find this calculator?

I've got a store right, but it's in test mode. I'll run it until It stops serving a better purpose, which I have yet to figure out.
One big problem with that calculator for me. eBay is forever coming out with specials where I can list up to 5000 item tomorrow/next week etc. I listed just about their 50 items per month through August, but managed 500+ listings in the last 4 months and did not pay a nickel for any listing. If you are seriously going over 50, it would be advantageous to have a store, but if your are marginal, try it without the store. Just be prepared to pack a bunch of listings in on short notice for their specials.
