    Product review- scale/balance

I found this scale (also called a balance) on Amazon. It's the American Weigh Signature AWS-100. The most appealing feature is the accuracy- it measures to 0.01g! The second best feature is the price- $10.59! Finally, it's portable- it can fit in a man's pocket). Other nice features are the protective flip-open cover and lightup LCD display. It takes 2 AAA batteries.

The only real con is its capacity of 100g, but that's far outside of my needs.

Photos below are of the scale with the lid on, and an underweight copper cent being weighed (look out for a thread on a few of these).

Thanks for the review, Sean. I may just end up buying it...looks reliable and I'm sure it will get the job done. Sure beats having to go to a "head shop" to look for scales...

I do have a question Sean. Have you checked the accuracy or are you telling us what they claim ?

Best excuse I've ever heard. "I was just getting my penny weighed officer."

Yes, I have checked their accuracy. They claim a possible error of +/-0.02g. I weighed some copper cents multiple times, and if a coin weighed 3.10g most of the time, a few times it would weigh 3.09 or 3.11. However, I have worked with lots of scales before in chemistry, and this is very typical. It's going vary due to slight inclines of the surface, minor air disturbances, etc.
