    My Unorganized Mess

I know there was a thread posted a while back for this but I figured I'd just post my own thread instead of resurrecting an old one. This is where I usually am when I am not working 12 hours a day. Eventually I will build myself a desk that will hold all this stuff where I want them to be but for right now I have it 'workable'.

    First picture:
This is pretty much what I have left to go through aside from the wheats and attributed coins in the picture. I took all my bricks of 2012D OBW and 2011P OBW back to the bank(wasn't able to sell/trade them). They wanted to deny them but they said since they were machine wrapped they'd make an exception. Technically, they wouldn't have been able to deny the coins anyways as it's legal us tender.

    Second picture:
This is my workable area. Search the coins with the scope, take the pictures with the DSLR. Coins on the table that the scope is on are varieties and errors but I was too lazy to throw them in the correct container on the box on the bottom of the table. The brick with the writing is my brick that is about 2/3 full of nothing but memorial doubled column/knee ddr's. I try not to keep any of the real minor ones or damaged ones. The boxes the scope is sitting on just has wheats in it. I'm using them just so I don't have to hunch over so much while sitting in my computer chair. The container sitting behind the scope is designated for DDO's from 2006. There's a lot! The coins on Rays setup are all attributed coins that I was photographing for my personal reference. As you can see in the middle is my pile of coins in the floor I had mentioned in another thread.

    Third picture:
The 'office'. Soon to upgrade the computer/monitors though but will have to come after I build my desk. I leave the side of my case off just to allow for cooling. I usually roll my chair between stations. Computer... scope... camera...computer... never ending cycle when I am searching coins. When i am not searching coins, I am building dynamic php/mysql/jquery websites for people. (which has been most of the reason why I've not had much time to search this year among working 12 hr days.)

Just thought I'd share my mess with you guys!
Someone offer me suggestions on organization tips! I'm in dire need.

The thread for the coin collecting software got me thinking... I don't have a problem keeping the information organized... it's just a matter of keeping the physical objects organized. How do you guys do it? I've started assigning 'serial numbers' to each flip and put them in numerical order... That seems to work pretty good. I just need to find something that can hold those flips like a baseball card box holds the cards.

That doesn't look too bad Matthew, but I can offer one suggestion for your flips. I use the old 35mm slide organizers you can find on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Brum...item27db78bd81

That definitely looks like a great way to keep them organized.

I think I posted the Thread that you were mentioning. There were a few good ideas and that's right to that I used. As for the desk I picked up one of those long lunch tables the kids have school about 15 bucks a yard sale.

I figure the only way for my desk to be like I want it is to build it myself. I plan on it being similar to a cubical.

Mine is an ugly mess because I try to search and catalog as I go while still building an area to store and organize. The result? Mayhem!

Nice! I'd like to see pictures of the completed project!

Arjohn - LOL, I think I tried doing that at first but now I just have designated containers for each variety type/error type. That works well at first but then it turns into having a lot of coins to attribute/re-attribute and catalog. I think I just need a more fluid method of going about roll searching.

Man am I glad To here about youse guys messes. I have spent countless hours of time and thought to try and get my stuff organized and neat. Organized I have gotten as close as I ever will. Not real good but I do know what I have got and what I have not searched. As for neat that will never happen. Just way to many pennies. As soon as I realized that everything did not have be attributed but just put in spot and labeled what it was. Took big load off brain and can focus on other stuff

good luck. I don't collect anymore just sell. That makes a big difference as I am meticulous with working on and grading etc... my regular Lincoln collection. That is probably why I do not worry as much about my varieties.
