    amusing coin story

Just thought I would share this funny exchange I had on craigslist. I had put out a wanted ad for cent hoards or collections to purchase. I like buying other people's hoards over just getting from the bank because often the cent hoards have a lot more older and better condition cents in them since they have just been sitting there out of circulation. Anyway, so this guy sends me photo of a pile of cents coming out of what looks like a mint bag. I can't tell the amount, but after asking some more questions, he tells me they range from the 50s to the 90s. I'm thinking, ok I can offer him full face value and maybe get a few wheats out of it. He starts asking me about shipping, and I tell him the shipping costs would probably not make it worth it, I would rather just pick them up, since I had mentioned I wanted local pick-up only in my ad. Then I get this response!

"there are 257 cents all together. i am not in the usa i am in cameroon that is why i talked of shiping"

! I don't even want to think about how much it would cost to ship 5 rolls worth of cents all the way from Cameroon!

Will you might just forget that one. I don't think he would be able to package them correctly anyway.

          OK...

I will be going to work on Monday... I will run a quote for UPS shipping from Cameroon to Florida..just for fun.... but he would have to package... and add a commercial invoice that would pass customs... and you would have to pay for any taxes and duties....also I remember a "law" put in place to stop the removal of copper cents from the U.S. for melting outside... I believe you could only ship $5 worth of nickles or cents... wounder if there is anything on importing U.S. cents?

Cameroon? And he is reading your local Craigslist? Wow...someone has a lot of time on their hands. Ask him if he would mind walking them over to you to save on the shipping costs

At least it's not someone claiming to be a prince who is willing to share his recent wealth with you if you send him a wire transfer of $1,000...

Well now I am getting creeped out. After I sent him a message saying it wouldn't be worth it because of the shipping, I got this reply, "how much will you pay shipping included?" except that this time the email was sent directly from his email instead of through the craigslist mail service and the "from" on this email account is: DHLmail serviice. (Yes, it was spelled that way). Maybe I am being paranoid, but this is getting fishy. I think I am going to end the communication now. Geez, even if I did pay him, there would also be a currency exchange fee! They are on the African franc. Just unreal. Maybe I should pay him in searched cents, lol!

I agree that it is best to walk away from this. This is all a bit fishy to me.
