First let me say I'm new here...and a bit of a nickel nut / expert.
I have two complete MS Jefferson nickels collections with just about every variety known.
A proof collection of Jefferson nickels with the 1971 S no S in DC proof 67. This coin there were only 1655 (estimated) minted.
I will be glad to post my nickels as long as I don't bore anyone in a Lincoln cent forum.
That said... most collectors don't know that the WW ll nickels all have some sort of variety.
During WW ll nothing was wasted. Dies were used till they exploded.
Then recycled ...
That said you will find in the 1942 type ll nickel thru 1945 wartime silver nickels lots of double dies, omm, over dates, etc.As time allows I will post some of my nickels both MS & PF state.
Another fact most collectors are unaware of is nickels have been some of the highest priced coins in the numistic market place.
Tonight I'll share one image of a find of mine searching bags. The image will explaine all as when you see it you'll be shocked ....the odds in this strike are unreal.
Its an error Jefferson from 1999 Denver mint. Notice that only 99 D can be seen on the plachet as well as the FS Fleix Schlag under Jefferson...what do you think the odds are for a strike like this?
