    Ebay Price deduction consideration????

    I just sat down after a small sale and realized just HOW MUCH it cost to sell on Ebay. Of the $56.90 in bids it cost me $13.48 to ship 4 coins, ( I collected $8 in mailing fees) ebay fees were $6.49, paypal fees were $3.09 which did leave me with $33.84 BUT - if you subtract this months Papal $30 account fee I am left with $3.84!!!

    So roughly I figure if you sell a coin on ebay, you are taking 35% - 40% hit in the total market value NOT including the $30 paypal account fee. Thus we all want to maximize revenues to recycle into our collections, But I am thinking I am better off selling coins with a deep discount in order to keep a little more of the cash.

    How do you folks look at the cost of selling on Ebay vs selling say, here on the forum, or to a fellow collector???

    I don't know where you got a $30 paypal account fee unless it's something special....I figure 12.9% total for eBay & paypal and try to charge actual shipping. I usually don't pay listing fees either...just wait for the specials.

      First off, you need to use eBay or PayPal for your shipping label. You should have only paid $1.93 each including tracking.
      Yes, eBay charges 10% unless you have a store (6%) and/or get their top rated discount (2%). I only pay 4.8% for coins. However, there are no major auctions cheaper.
      I have no idea what your "$30 PayPal account fee" is. They only charge me 35¢ plus 2.9%.

      So with your sales ($56.90 + $8.00), I would pay;
      eBay fees = $3.11
      Shipping = $7.72
      PayPal = $1.88 + $1.40
      total = $14.11 (of which $8 is not for coins)

        I also sell frequently on Ebay and I've never heard of, nor have I ever been charge a $30 Paypal fee.

            I get a $30 a month paypal account fee posted the first of each month - just for the privilege of having an Paypal account - this may be because it is set up as a business account under "PayPal Pro/Virtual Terminal Monthly Fee"

              I've always had there standard account but I do need to set up shipping through them I guess... I figure if you use a site for convenience they ARE going to charge you for that convenience. That is why I sell everything off of my own site and the only charge is to accept the normal Paypal fee for taking a payment from someone...

                I have a business account with Paypal also and have never needed the Pro option. Unless you are developing and using their API, or taking CCs swipes via your computer or mobile device there is little need for it. For Ebay sales, the regular Paypal Business account handles all the needs you might have. From the description HERE, unless you need ALL of those options I would take your account down to the regular business version and save the monthly $ cost.

                  Thanks everyone you just saved me $30 a month! I just got off the phone with my son and with Paypal. Turns out years ago when he was in high school we set up the account in my name as he was selling software using credit cards , etc., and too young to establish the account. Well he is 22 now, graduated from college and working for Google which basically owns his mind now and he is forbidden to independently develop software. So he told me he has not use the account in about 2 years and to cancel it. My concern was I would have to establish a whole new account but paypal so no, in fact, seeing it has not been used for selling software, they are going to reimburse me 3 months back fees!

                  So I guess complaining some times does pay off! thanks again everyone!
