Left for work this morning 5:30 am. Usually smooth sailing that early. Not today. Traffic light was out on my road, and traffic backed up on both my route and the bypass. Here is what happened. Look at those pictures! Anyway, onward I go.
I get to work pretty late. Help with a local delivery, and load up for my job. I know about the accident and I know all the roads, so I circumvent it nicely. Well, as I'm driving down 896 (This is just about a mile from the other accident) I suddenly see a horse (alone) coming toward me in the oncoming lane with reins attached and clearly in some distress. I said, "Um, that's bad." I stopped, looked in the rear view, the horse pulled up, and fell over dead. I could see the commotion ahead and pulled up. Pieces of buggy everywhere, a smashed up car, and Amish people strewn all over the grass. 3 children, 1 infant. So far, I believe the horse was the only fatality, but there were 5 traumas. 10 seconds earlier, I would have been right in it! That's notable because I took a slightly different (and longer) route than usual to get there because of the earlier accident.
That was enough to make me shaky the rest of the way to my job. Farther South, there was sudden heavy fog. It was so heavy I was driving 10 mph and just totally freaked out at this point. I arrived safely and worked the next 4.5 hours without incident. I walked out to leave and there is a freaking TURKEY sitting on top of my box truck just staring at me! Um, that's pretty weird. I'm not sure what someone is trying to tell me at this point, but I'm seriously freaked out now. My next job takes a **** on me and I head back to the shop early. I head toward home and stop for a much needed eggnog. I'm chatting about the strange day with the guy next to me, and NO LIE, HIS BARSTOOL COLLAPSES FROM UNDER HIM AND HE ENDS UP ON HIS BACK ON THE FLOOR!
I'm home now, locking the doors and windows, hiding the women and children, and cracking something from my cellar. lol.
