    Nickel Question

Picked up a $50 mint sewn bag of 2003D Nickels just because it was there. Is there any reason other than possibly finding mint errors that I should open the bag?

Because you need the change Sorry I couldn't resist the temptation... I wouldn't other than to find varieties or errors unless there are the enough valuable ones for that year to warrant opening the bag!!!

I don't see anything on Wexlers or Brian's variety coins (through Wexler's site)

Another reason would be. Every roll of nickles you can get 4 rolls of Lincoln Cents. Jim started it.
I don't think I've seen any Varieties on that year. Maybe there is some 5 or 6 step gems.

Of course I opened the bag. Full of BU nickels with bag marks and many steps. I did not look at each coin and don't know if I ever will. Just spreading them out I could not see any major errors. When I get tired of qnawing off my right arm at the elbow, I will get back to this bag.
P.S. If I needed the money for buying cents, I would not have bought the bag of nickels.

Logged onto NGC's price guide. $110 @ MS66 w/5 full steps. $125.00 @ MS66 w/6 full steps. Pop report showed only 5 total coins graded at MS 67 for 5FS and 6FS. A 67+ w/6FS went for $280.00 in 2007. This Full Steps thing borders on insanity based the prices some will pay! Good luck!

Thanks for that info. Maybe I'll stop chewing on my arm after all. Most all of the ones I did look at in detail do have 5 steps though I don't know how they would score.
