    1972 NFL Punter

Just found this stamped Lincoln. Does anyone know who this #27 is? It looks like he is a punter and was well known in 1972. Your help is appreciated. Thanks for looking,

Cool find... Not sure but it may be related to a college kicker... I do not think NFL kickers use numbers in the 20 and up range??? Would be cool to find out tho!!!

Right, this guy is a kicker, not a punter. In the NFL, kickers and qbs wear numbers from 1-19, but that system was only adopted in 1973, so it could be someone from 1972 or earlier. Anyway, what neat counterstamp. I have never seen one like this before. No idea if it is supposed to be a particular someone or just a generic person. Have to try to do some research. Fun find!

helmet being a leather type leads me to a pre 1940 helmet and person
the uniform looks like long sleeves which would also be pre 1940

Good point, Jim!! I think the #27 has some significance, but for what or who I do not know.

pre 1960s some players doubled up on positions
                QB/K George Blanda
RB/K Frank Gifford, and Paul Hornung
The first kicking specialist is considered to be Ben Agajanain in 1945
                .
you are probably looking for a player that could be of any position who kicked a wining field goal or point after
that won a special game ( maybe an anniversary in 1972) prior to the 1940 season in college or pros....
                Good luck on that.
BUT never the less a super cool coin.

This coin has generated some really good discussion... nfl.com could provide some insight as well as the NCAA site... Will have to do some research now!!!
