    1978 D nickel doubling?

    Does anyone else think that this looks doubled? To me it does. It seems to have a lot of wear to it as well.

      That thought crossed my mind too. That's why I said it has a lot of wear. Thank you much for your input. Lol, the thick doubling still gets me.

        Nickels are inherently difficult because of the way they wear. Have you got any 5c doubled dies? I find that notching is pretty noticeable until it gets to MLDS. It seems that extra thickness very seldom means a doubled die.

          No, I do not have any nickels that are doubled. I seem to be stuck on what the for sure markings are. I do know that notching is one sure way to tell. I guess I really need to study these more to figure out what I am supposed to be looking for. But you are right. They are most certainly not like the cents.

            I agree with Bob, nickels are a pain and this is die wear. Look for notching.

                  Unless there is a positive item that jumps out as doubling I just pass on to the next one. Nickels can be overthought.
                  Even a fool can look wise if he keeps his mouth closed.
