1983 P nickel doubled on reverse?

These Nickels are very difficult. They get me. I can't tell if this is die deterioration or if it is doubling. It kind of looks like doubling to me. Can someone help?

That's looking a lot like die wear common to nickel and clad coinage dies. Notice how the raised areas have no rhyme or reason and envelop the devices. And how the pseudo-doubling is uneven with a pull toward the rims. These things can drive you crazy...

I agree with Jason. If you remove it most of the design is smaller than normal.

The image of the C indicates die wear, as previously stated, The doubling stays on the inside edges of the letter, not a inside outside consistency a doubling would create. Nickles are tough and take a lot of study to get use to the way they wear differently from cents due to the difference in the malleability of the metal.

Thank you guys. I am doing a lot of dimes and nickels for a bit of a change. They are much different. I am also having a hard time finding a good website for comparison of these. Does anyone know of a good website?
