    1977 silver Kennedy half.

I'm wondering if anyone here can point me towards some information or a contact for any 1977 silver Kennedy half dollars that have been graded.
I realize they were not intentionally made from silver that year, but they were for 1976 (bicentenial proof and mint sets). Which leads me to believe there are some out there for 1977 on silver planchets intended for 1976. Similar to the 1943 copper cents were supposed to be steel.
    Thanks in advance, Cliff

They did mistakenly make some. As for where to buy, I have no idea.

This is the only thing I've found so far Cliff. It says this happened with the 1971-D and the 1977-D coins, 40% silver. I'll keep digging though. https://www.thespruce.com/kennedy-ha...rieties-768828

I've checked PCGS, NGC and ANACS, none of them have in their inventory. As elusive as even the info is on this coin, you will more than likely have to find someone who specializes in JFK halves. That's a good one Cliff!!

Sometimes minterrornews magazine has great info on stuff like that and it's fun to look at the magazines online. You might look there, you'll see some neat stuff and great articles and pics.

They have a 90% 1965 Kennedy, there is a 77-D Ike on a 40%, sort of in line with what you asked about since those 40% planchets probably came from the 1976 40% sets with the quarter, half and dollar.

Welcome to minterrornews.com, bringing the latest mint error news and information to the collector. This is our third year bringing you both a print magazine and an on-line PDF magazine filled with articles, features and discoveries of major mint errors (striking errors) from the United States and around the World. Minterrornews.com has become one of the most popular and informative Internet resources for mint errors and is read by thousands of dealers and collectors. Two major minterrornews.com sponsors are Mike Byers and ANACS. Mike Byers is the Publisher and Editor of Mint Error News Magazine. Supposedly you first take a regular coin of same year and your suspected silver coin and lay them side by side. Second, you cover them both with tissue paper or paper towel. Lastly, shine a bright light on both coins simultaneously. The silver coin will shine through the tissue paper. The regular strike will not.

Thanks so much to all for your input.
I'm not in the market for one but I have a friend that has had testing done on one that he found in the reject bin of a Coinstar!! He sent it to NGC for encapsulation (twice but that is another story) and they would NOT authenticate or encapsulate it.
The coin matches mint specs for a planchet from 1976 (alloy composition, diameter, thickness weight and even specific gravity test). I just thought I would see if anyone here might have some suggestions or individuals I could pass on to him. Thanks again to everyone.
ps.Thanks Ed, for getting me distracted with the Errornews issue. I could get lost reading that for days.
