I know there are members here who metal detect so you'll be able to appreciate a fun day going on down here today.
The local metal detecting Club put on a hunt at a local park. It's a lot of fun on a nice cool day if you've never done it before.
A friend of mine who is a lot more intense about it than myself suggested joining it which we did. Between the two of us I won the quantity totals but he won the quality total. (He won a metal detector by finding a marked token.)
The silver painted Shield cent is representative of the 4500 painted cents they used for targets on one portion of the day. About 10% did not get found in an hour of searching by about 80 enthusiasts. They scatter them about an area 200 ft x 300 ft. and about an inch below the sand/pine needles.
The last hunt of the day they scatter silver dimes and other coins in the hunt area along with some silver dollars, half dollars, quarter dollars, special keys, and tokens which can win nice prizes.
Hope you enjoy the images as much as I enjoyed the hunt.
(All I could think of when seeing the Lincoln's was "What a shame, all these damaged Lincoln's with paint on them)
