    Silver and copper!

I know there are members here who metal detect so you'll be able to appreciate a fun day going on down here today.
The local metal detecting Club put on a hunt at a local park. It's a lot of fun on a nice cool day if you've never done it before.
A friend of mine who is a lot more intense about it than myself suggested joining it which we did. Between the two of us I won the quantity totals but he won the quality total. (He won a metal detector by finding a marked token.)
The silver painted Shield cent is representative of the 4500 painted cents they used for targets on one portion of the day. About 10% did not get found in an hour of searching by about 80 enthusiasts. They scatter them about an area 200 ft x 300 ft. and about an inch below the sand/pine needles.
The last hunt of the day they scatter silver dimes and other coins in the hunt area along with some silver dollars, half dollars, quarter dollars, special keys, and tokens which can win nice prizes.
Hope you enjoy the images as much as I enjoyed the hunt.
(All I could think of when seeing the Lincoln's was "What a shame, all these damaged Lincoln's with paint on them)

      Sounds like fun.

Now will you go hit the same spot and look for some left behind silvers?

No place is truly hunted out. I've searched my own yard many times and still find a cent or two.
I know I never lost coins in the yard so they're from previous owners.

That's cool... You got some nice finds... Think I need to modify my wheel chair for off road excursions (Might tick off the VA but hey )... Mount 3 metal detectors with sweep capabilities, make 6 degrees freedom of movement, and wire them directly to the batteries
          Jim
(A.K.A. Elmer Fudd) Be verwy verwy quiet... I'm hunting coins!!! Good Hunting!!!

You read my mind Jim because it would be neat to put one on treads for the beach that could have a little scoop and be operated like a "sand drone". Operator sits in a recliner with a joystick to control it while drinking Rum Punch!
Thanks everyone for the replies. Sorry for the delayed response. (Internet has been down since Fri. and Comcast can't make it here till Thurs!!!)
Ed, I thought of that because items from last year were found Sat. Bound to be some silver left.
Jon, I ended with a Baker's dozen and the painted shield missed earlier in the day.
Thanks Viv. It was fun and overcast which helped keep it cool. Learned tricks for next year to "take home all the prizes".

That story is impressive. To think his contraption picked up a piece of barbed wire 4' down. (And of course he had to refill the 4' deep hole for a piece of wire.)

I guess it all paid off when it found the million dollar giant meteorite.

A thousand fold... That is cool... Need to add some hydraulics and a bucket for digging

It would have to be balloon tires... The state frowns on treads at the beach... They even make the military, when playing beach landing, put special pads on the treaded vehicles to prevent damage to the beaches and road ways
