1940 Canada Cent silver planchet or clad?

    1940 Canada Cent silver planchet or clad?

    not sure what to make of this Canadian penny I can't find any info on the internet of one that is silver like this and the reverse side having that round dot.

    Looks to be plated and the spot on the reverse is some sort of PSD, maybe a counterstamp.

      It does not look like any other 1940 Canadian penny why would this one be plated?

        It may not be plated but changed in color due to something it was exposed to. It could have meant something special to and individual too and they had it plated or plated it themselves. We'll see what others say but I do not think it is special in any way.

          I think someone soldered a pin shank on it and wore it like a pin. The silver dot is solder where the shank broke off.

            This most certainly happened after it left the Canadian Mint. That's why you won't find any info on it. If it is plated, it is anyone's guess as to why it was done. It is a lot more common than you think.
