1987-P Jefferson nickel cupped on the rim and indent

The writing seems to be sitting in a sort of indent with a sort of cupped edge? I have a feeling this could be common?
And is there a DDR on the reverse?

I am not that familiar with nickles, nor have looked up much information on them.
Just found this from store change and thought it looked interesting.

Appears to be die deterioration.

The areas at the inside edge of the rims is where the die face ends... The rims get formed in due to the collar and rim gutter... The sharp edge of the die face wears down faster than the face giving us the concave look on the coins... A good way to see this is when we focus our cameras toward the outer edge of a coin - the outer edge will be in focus but if we look toward the center of the coin that portion of the pic will be out of focus... Hope that helps a bit!!!

You can tell it is suffering from strong die deterioration by the heavy die flow lines above UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
