1835 Coronet Head Cent with Head of 1836 (?)

So, I saw this thread posted by uglycent this morning and it reminded me of a coin I got from my grandfather years ago. I've searched for 2 hours and finally found it. Looking at PCGS Coin Facts, if I'm seeing correctly, I believe this is a transitional coin with the head 1836. I believe it is also the Small 8 and stars. Can anyone confirm this for me? Thanks for looking.

It does indeed appear to be an 1835 with the head of 1836. The shape of the bust as well as the positioning of the stars in relation to the hair bun helps identify it as such. It also appears to be the small 8 and stars. Well done on your research.

I had no intention of anyone going to such lengths looking for a cent, but I am glad you found it. It is worth more knowing it's history over any money can replace.

It would have happened at some point anyway. Also found a couple other coins my grandfather gave me. Didn't really know anything about them until now. There was an 1864 2 cent coin and an 1883 "Rakateer" Nickel along with a few other coins. Thanks for sparking a memory! The history amazes me!

Yes, I did notice that first one had the stars on the rim. I still dont understand how they got there, but that one is awesome! I think my grandfather gave my brothers a couple coins too. He wasnt a collector, per se, just a few coins he had held on to. Glad he did, though. :-) Thanks for taking the time to look and comment!!

I do my best to look and comment on all of the threads even if it's just a wise a#$ remark Plus I learn a little some thing in the process... As for the stars on the rim I would think it is a doubled die??? I know nothing of these but coin making has been basically the same since some one realized it was easier to put a piece of silver or gold in the pocket instead of a cow or goat
