Cool looking... I have found a few dimes with the same color... To me it looks like a chemical treatment that changed the color??? Circ wear can make the edges appear to not show the clad layers properly... Did you weigh this one??? Dime should weigh 2.268 grams!!!

I remember a few years ago when the Daniel Carr overstrikes came out, it was all the rage in the silver dollar world.

Yes, his stuff gets a lot more respect by collectors than other modern fantasy pieces.
I remember he was posting on one of the forums showing a press and a bunch of stuff that came with it that he bought from the US mint. It had some pieces with it, maybe collars or parts of the collars and you could see they had been accidentally struck by the coin dies at the mint, enough that you could see what coin the dies were, I think it was some modern commemorative. I was thinking they should be sent for grading, you can get a scrap that was struck graded as an error. LOL.Comment

About the right weight for a worn dime.
I think it's pretty natural, they were in dirt or in the gutter or wishing well and take on some brown color.
Ever notice that in CWRs or bags sometimes you'll find an ugly dime in among the cents? I don't think they take on the color from being in the cents, it's more likely that they were stained and when someone dumped their coin jar and picked out the silver change the ugly dime got left in with the cents because of the color.Comment

I'm with Ed... Sounds about rite for a worn dime... I did not consider sitting in a wishing well... Depending on the minerals in the water you could get some strange colors!!!Jim
