1903 clashed indian head penny

I posted this 1903 indian head to get some comments on the clashing and the condition as I am not real good at grading coins. I thought the clashing was unique since it is on both sides. Please have a look, thanks...........dinkyblue

Very nice coin and clashes Dan!! Nothing listed on Mad Die Clashes either, (http://www.maddieclashes.com/) . Easily MS, except for the bad rim ding at UNITED, not sure what that would do to the grade.

That's is a nice IHC... I'm no grader but I don't see why you couldn't get a 64 or better on that??? Here are some on PCGS to compare with... I moved your thread to Off Topic forum since it is not a Lincoln Cent... Have you tried an overlay, for the clash, yet???

Because the rim ding alone is enough to make it not grade and something about the surfaces is off. Regardless of having unc details, I doubt it can grade without several issues but it might have unc details.

I'm always amazed, you can find unc IHCs or older wheats that the graders kill for rim issues even on the outer edge. That's one reason why they went to the prong holders so people can see the edge and rim better. I've seen high grade proofs where they bag it for a small rim ding. Sad but that's how they grade them. Painfully

I didn't do an overlay for the clash but I did do a comparison with the overlay templates available and everything lines up. I wanted this indian head penny because of the clashes on the obverse and the one on the reverse, I thought they looked pretty neat almost a full face clash on the reverse. I like the error coins they seem to be more interesting. As far as the grading I'm not very good at it that's why I wanted to get some comments as to the condition. I saw the rim ding but wanted it anyway for my indian head collection. The price was $30.00. I won't get it graded anyway so it will just be a raw one in my collection. Thank you for your comments GrumyEd and Jim, the rim ding doesn't bother me that much, I do like the clashes..................Dan
