    Coinstar

Im not sure if Coinstar machines have penetrated the entire US yet but they are in every grocery store here in California and I always see people pouring loose change in them. I can only imagine what they find in them.

It would be a collectors paradise somewhere along the line if you can find the right machine and the right batch of coins to go through.

I don't deal with Coinstar machines so I ask this off the wall question.
Will a Coinstar machine make change for dollar bills? Or is it just a one-way street strictly accepting (?) change. How does it pay you off if you input $10.51 in change?

COIN STAR machines do not pay you off directly; one must go the the stores teller to receive the money, AFTER a nominal fee of 8% for using that service has been charged.

While it is handy for dumping pennies into (I would rather use that machine than re-wrap the coins), when speaking of any other coinage, it gets to be expensive.

We have one machine in a Publix market that beats the COIN STAR all to pieces. There are few rejections and the count takes less than a third of the COIN STAR lengthy process of counting.

It prints a voucher that the cashier will in turn give you cash.

I always take a look at the return bin as I walk by. Many times I have found interesting items there. Silver coins, tokens, foreign coins. Not everyone checks for rejects
