    1982 Jefferson nickel

Help me out here, because I'm lost and getting scattered info from my web searches. Why is a 1982 Jefferson nickel worth more than a nickel? I'm seeing 25 cents in G4, and goes up from there. Info?

Don't know, not low mintage and the melt value is .056, a shade more than face value. Where are you seeing these numbers? Everything I'm seeing does not even give worth until you get to MS.

That's odd. It shows them being worth more than others in MS condition too. https://www.usacoinbook.com/coins/nickels/jefferson/

A lower mintage than some but would not think low enough to make this difference.

          I agree about the mintage.
(I don't think there were any mint sets produced in 1982 to help the numbers.)

          From Numista:
          1980 P- Mintage: 593 004 000
          1981 P- Mintage: 657 504 000
          1982 P- Mintage: 292 355 000
          1983 P- Mintage: 561 615 000
          1984 P- Mintage: 746 769 000
          1985 P- Mintage: 647 114 962

So, just curious, how did this come about, what made you look, or did you just see the difference in numbers? I guess a couple of things to ponder. Who is willing to pay this difference and why? That would be the answer I would need before moving forward on collecting just random 82's and would it be worth it. I would like to see where this goes. Did you notice the others? 83's, 84's and 86's, worth more than normal? I've donked around with nickels but don't know them, obviously....

I remember them bringing a premium on ebay a few years back and when looking for them, they were hard to find. Don't recall finding out why other than the low mintage......seem to recall the dimes were the same

No, that was a mixed roll of liberty nickels and Buffalo nickels. Lol. But got me started looking at nickels. I better stop immediately.
