In The RPM Book, first edition with only two 56D examples, the 1956 D 5c RPM #2 looks a lot like your coin. However, in the picture, it appears the D is a bit farther north than the D on your nickel. The picture in the book does not show the doorway for a reference point. I wish this was of more help. I hope someone else can find the answer.
Nice find Billy!
Jean
Excellent find and photographs Billy... You are on a serious roll... We should have a competition of who can find the most varieties in a month... It would be a toss up between Billy, Jean and Aisha!!!
Jim
Jim (A.K.A. Elmer Fudd) Be verwy verwy quiet... I'm hunting coins!!! Good Hunting!!!
Billy, It's #2... The monticello base and the mintmark line up perfectly. Did you find any extra - still need that one.....
Eric, thanks for confirming it's #2.
I don't need it. I took all the photos I need of the coin along with die markers for attributing in my files. Just PM your address and I'll get it out to you.
