Verdi-Gone if you ask me. It does work
Its actually a forum members product BadThad.
At last a modern alternative to using oil and harsh solvents on coins! Coin conservationists have used oil on coins for hundreds of years. Coin conservationists have used solvents for decades. However, oils contain trace amounts of impurities that can actually act to damage a coin's surface over time and solvents may harm or strip the patina. Also, oils are difficult to remove, slowly degrade, allow moisture to get to the surface and may have negative health effects. Oils are ‘old school’ and have primarily been used because there was no other choice. It’s time to move into the 21st century with a modern-day, alternative that utilizes the latest advances in chemical technology and coin conservation science. VERDI-CARE™ is designed to work on all metal coin surfaces: gold, silver, copper, brass, etc. No more trial and error, no more guesswork, no more worries. VERDI-CARE™ is safe, gentle and effective as a surface debris remover. VERDI-CARE™ allows collectors to conserve their coins and not strip them clean of luster and original patina. There is a big difference between conservation and cleaning. With VERDI-CARE™ you can be sure not to cross that line due to its safe and gentle nature. Your coins will be conserved, not cleaned. Problems like light surface residue, verdigris and corrosion can now be addressed without resorting to expensive, third-party conservation services. No more trying several different chemicals hoping that one of them will fix the problem! No more long months of oil or chemical soaking! No more crying over a ruined coin! For Protection VERDI-CARE™ utilizes a 2-stage system surface. Closest to the surface, the ReAcT2™ ingredient forms a semi-permanent bond with metal. This layer provides heavy-duty, advanced corrosion protection and is only molecules thick. It is completely invisible and will last virtually forever. The second (upper) layer is an advanced, water-soluble, surface-conditioning, polymeric layer that will repel atmospheric contaminants, enhance luster and improve, not strip, the patina. Apply VERDI-CARE™ with a soft microfiber cloth such as GemBright Lintless Cloth or Novus Polish Mates. For more information, review the manufacturer's FAQ, Instructions, Typical Results file and SDS documents at the links below: Size: 1 fluid ounce (30 mL), 2 fluid ounce (60 mL), or 8 fluid ounces (240 mL)VERDI-CARE™ FAQs: VERDI-CARE™ FAQsVERDI-CARE™ Typical Results: VERDI-CARE™ Typical ResultsVERDI-CARE™ Instructions: VERDI-CARE™ InstructionsVERDI-CARE™ Material Safety Data Sheet: VERDI-CARE™ SDS

I'm going to order some very soon. But I thought it was replaced by Verdi-Care. At least that's what I saw last time I looked at wizard's page. Anyhow, it should tell you which one to use. I'm very interested to see how the ones I have set aside will turn out; I'm looking forward to documenting the process.

Thanks everyone for recommending VC!

I found this coin last night and decided to run a test on it. The coin was soaked in VC for 24 hours and then rubbed (under the fluid) with a toothpick for about a minute. The remaining heavy verdigris cannot be removed without damaging the underlying surface. This is about as good as it gets.

Yes, VERDI-GONE has been discontinued as VC is vastly superior.

I'm looking forward to seeing your test results. I really enjoying seeing customer results!

I have used it on older copper coins and it works great. The coins with heavy verdigris will still have it on the coin in the final analysis, but for coins with light verdigris, verdi-care works well. As I write I am inthe process of conserving a bag of wheaties. The results are excellent. I have experimented with 1983-1999 copper plated cents but it should not be used on BU coins. That's my research and results.

The conserved version definitely looks better, a cleaner version of the Masked Lincoln cent - LOL

You can always use clean solution and resoak again. I resoaked many coins.

I have a question for you all that have used this stuff. After soaking how do you remove the residue. Water? Soap? light cloth?

For me it depends on the coin. I typically use a paper towel and dab off the excess. Then I'll dab it with clean, dry a Kimwipe or a micro fiber towel. After that, allow it to dry for 24 hours, no rinsing is necessary or recommended.

After the coins dries, if you so desire, you can remove 99.9+% of the protective polymer with just distilled water.

Outside of that ( or till it comes in stock again) acetone would work too right? if not what else can you suggest in the mean time
