    1972-D overlay of rpms

    1972-d rpm overlay
Hope this is the right forum for this. I am working on doing overlays with new adobe. Well new to me,found elements 6 in closet and I never installed it. My question is am I on the right track on using the overlay program to being able to determine if they are the same rpm when I can not find die markers because of different stage or just determing if I have same coin listed as 2 different ones in my records. The 3 photos in order are of a 1972-D rpm of mine, then copper coins 72-D 1 mm-009 from site and then the overlay I did.
I will take any advice on what I did wrong or to make it better. I just learned basics of it other night. If anybody got time one evening to teach me more or better/faster way I could use it.

Ask Bob or Chuck before posting an overlay using a CC image. And posting a PSD link only works if the user has Photoshop to view the image. I was able to open it. I didn't know one could attach a PSD file like that. What you did with the overlay, adjusting opacity and rotating/resizing is the only method, so you're doing it right. They are not always fast or easy to make.

Ok great thanks. I thought that was the same but had none of his markers and my reverse is much sharper. So obviously it's a different stage. How do I go about figuring the stage?

It's not 1MM-009. I just played with your overlay and the MM on yours is lower. I'll admit the split serif is very similar. PM Bob and see if he wants to see the coin.

Try using guides by clicking view rulers and using the move tool to drag guides from the side and top along key points. Like the bottom of the 9, 7 top of the D and the west most part of the D. You can overlay the mintmarks more precisely. It looks correct at first until I reverse opacity and turned the layer on and off. You can see the date position changes. When you line up the date, the MM on yours is lower.

You can also use a new layer and the line tool without arrows to create lines as guides as well.

Jim: Here area few links for photoshop I posted on coppercoins years ago. Maybe some principles will work to the elements program:

Richard S. Cooper Some have asked about my images I use, and I'm glad to say I've completed a DVD of these. Ask if you are interested. Newer members like these.

Thanks you guys. I will try that tonite. That will come in handy. When I was lining up the bottom of the date it seemed that there was a bit of difference. But mm was just so close I thought mabey I did something that messed up my portions. Goes to show how close two mm be alike. This will help me sort thru a lot of my boxes that I could never figure out.
As for bob I talked to him last week and said he would take a look when he can. I have put back coins for (chuck) long time and now I am just going thru to see if they have been added these last few years. Forgot how fun this stuff was.

I like the idea of using the guides to help line up the date. Thanks for the tip Jason!

Hey Dave I figured out how to move overlay around and resize it not having to use the shift key. After you get your image on over the other I went back and clicked on resize image and then hit "free transom" then you are able to move the overlay around, spin it, and make it bigger or smaller while keeping it all portioned correctly. Attleast that is where I found it in my program. Free Transom. See if it works on yours.
